BU Drops Pair to Newberry College

NEWBERRY, SC--The Bloomsburg University baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Newberry College on Tuesday by scores of 7-2 and 5-3.

In the opener, Bloomsburg's offense came from Tony Donofry (Newtown/Council Rock North) hit a two-run homer which gave the Huskies a 2-1 lead. Newberry, though, scored six unanswered runs to win 7-2. Matt Allen (DuBoistown/South Williamsport) went 2-3 for the Huskies.

In game two, the Huskies jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Donofry singled, stole second and scored on a single by Chris Tressler (Lewistown/Lewistown). After Newberry scored three times in the bottom of the first, Bloomsburg tied the score with a pair of runs in the top of the second. Anthony Forman (Richboro/Council Rock South) and Preston Hitchcock (Laceyville/Wyalusing Valley) both drove in runs in the inning. The Indians took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the third.

The Huskies had the tying run at the plate in the top of the seventh, but had two fly outs to end the game. Tressler finished 3-4 with an RBI in the game, while Hitchcock was 2-4 with an RBI.

Bloomsburg, 2-9, will play Coker College of Hartsville, SC in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
